Teddy Bridgewater leads Vikings to last second win in preseason game
Minneapolis, MN (WDAY TV) - Fans were cheering at TCF Bank Stadium from start to finish, they were chanting the first name of a quarterback that has yet to take a regular season NFL snap. And it's only the preseason!
Head Coach Mike Zimmer has a pair of quarterbacks that are doing what they're supposed to do, compete for the starting job.
Matt Cassel hit Kyle Rudolph in stride for a 51-yard touchdown. Cassel completed 12 of 16 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown in the first half. He'll likely be the starter week one at St. Louis.
But the fans voiced their vote for Teddy last night; Bridgewater's first pass was hauled in by Detroit Lakes native Adam Thielen. The former Laker made 4 catches for 54 yards.
Bridgewater delivers his first NFL touchdown pass in the 4th to tight end Alan Reisner for the 3-yard score.
Now, the Cardinals go up 28-24 late. So Bridgewater has a minute to lead the game-winning drive, he goes up top for Rodney Smith for a 37-yard gain.
Then with 20 seconds left, Bridgewater to Smith again on the fade.
He makes the grab and the crowd erupts. Vikings win 30-28 and Teddy finishes 12-for-16 for 177 yards and a pair of scores.
Teddy Bridgewater\Last Night: 16-20, 177 yds, 2 TD: “We'd love to have them all put away sooner, but it's always fun to get that 2-minute experience in. Last week was a learning experience. You get a feel for the game and today I was able to go out there. I knew what it takes to game plan. I knew what it took to actually go into an NFL football game and play football.”
