Sinner announces student loan initiative
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A candidate running for Congress says he wants to help ease student loan debt for college students.
Democratic nominee George Sinner touted his plan at a roundtable meeting with students at NDSU today.
Sinner, challenging Congressman Kevin Cramer this fall, says if elected, he would introduce a three-point plan.
The proposal would increase Pell Grants as tuition rises and give graduates the option of refinancing consolidated loans.
Sinner says he also wants to cap interest rates on federal loans below 3%.
George Sinner- (D) Running for Congress: "It's too much and it's a burden that hurts them, it hurts our economy and it hurts our state."
Sinner's opponent, Congressman Cramer, says Sinner's plan is financially irresponsible... and fixing interest rates would eventually raise tuition costs.
