One teen in custody after police chase, crash into building downtown
FARGO – A teenage girl is in custody and two others have been released to their parents after allegedly stealing a car and driving into a building downtown while on the run from police.
Fargo police Lt. Joel Vettel said officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle in the Sixth Avenue North and Fourth Street intersection at about 1:35 Monday morning.
The girl driving the car, who’s 16, fled from police, said Vettel, and crashed into a building in the Second Avenue North and Fourth Street area.
The car came to rest on the north side of Second Avenue, and the girl and her two underage female passengers fled into the nearby Radisson hotel.
None of the girls were injured, and the driver was taken into custody on suspicion of driving a stolen vehicle.
The other two were returned to her parents.
Vettel said the department is working to confirm initial reports that the vehicle was reported stolen from a relative of the driver’s.
There’s no information yet on the amount of damage to the building.
