North Dakota match play down to 8 golfers
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - After starting with about 50 golfers, the North Dakota match play is down to the final 8, for what should be an exciting weekend of golf.
Strong winds made for some frustrated competitors this morning and afternoon.
In the round of 16, Connor Holland getting ready for his junior year with the Bison, he knocks this short putt down on 7 and defeats Adam Granaas 5 and 4.
Fargo's Greg Melhus won 6 and 5 in the round of 32, he was strong again in the afternoon, this long birdie on 9, helps him defeat Jared Cowden, 4 and 2. He'll meet Bismarck's Rick Kuhn tomorrow.
2-time defending state champ Riley Johnson of West Fargo is into the final 8 he pars hole 3 with this 8-footer, and defeats Rob Goff, 5 and 4.
Defending match play champ Bill Carlson is still alive; the NDSU senior has a nice chip on 8, and eliminates Jake Deforest, 1 up. He draws Mason Kennedy in the next round.
