Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It's not flowers or a handmade card... one mom got something a little more special for Mother's Day.

Just in time for the holiday, Merissa Kann became a new mom this morning.

Daughter Harper Rae was born just before seven this morning at the Sanford Family Birth Center weighing in at just over 7 pounds.

The family says this is a very sweet moment for them as it's not only Merissa's first child, but the first grandchild for both sides of the family.

Merissa Kann/ New Mom: "They always say once you see your baby for the first time you fall in love and that sure is the case, and on Mother's Day it couldn't be more fitting."

Mom and baby Harper are expected to go home on Tuesday.

Since last Mother's Day there have been nearly 2,600 babies born at the Sanford Family Birth Center in Fargo.
