Moorhead woman has a unique relationship with Hollywood star Cher
Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - A south Moorhead woman is still "giddy" about her backstage visit with Cher this week in the twin cities.
22-year old Emily Paulson first met the Super Star back in 1992, on a national TV talk-show.
The two have maintained a relationship, centering on children born with cranio-facial deformities.
Of course Emily Paulson plans on seeing Cher on her Fargo stop in October. But when the chance came to meet Cher backstage in Minneapolis, Emily was all about it.
Emily Paulson/ Moorhead: “And I got pretty excited and she gave me a hug, it was incredible. She said our family was cute.”
The relationship goes back years. Cher held then baby Emily during a taping of a Maury Povich show back in 1992. At the time, Cher was leading the charge on camps and retreats for children born with cranio-facial issues, like Treacher Collins. Emily has endured 20 surgeries. But Cher has been there for this family.
Denise Paulson/ Emily’s Mother: “She's the real deal, she is very self-confident, she is 68. She is a celebrity and very successful in many different ways but someone who gives back, but she doesn't do it for show.”
We have followed Emily for years, can't and no are not in her vocabulary. Did we mention she is just a year away from finishing college as a registered nurse.
Emily: “Throughout my life, she taught all of us to believe in yourself, never give up, be yourself and even though we are different we are still the same people we are normal.”
The movie star, singer and performer has inspired Emily. No question Emily has paid it forward.
She plans on spending her nursing career, helping medically fragile children.
And Emily is taking a special guest to the Cher concert in Fargo, her grandma.
