MN Restrictions on live bait
Minnesota (WDAY TV) - Anglers may have a hard time fishing through the murky waters of live bait rules and regulations for Minnesota's fishing season.
If you plan on catching live bait from one of the lakes for your own use, there are certain types of minnows that can only be caught if the lake has been inspected for the VHS virus within the past year, with very few exceptions.
If you're getting live bait from a shop and placing them in a lake, you need to change the water when pulling unused bait out.
Lastly, crossing state lines with live bait is not allowed.
Jason Sayler/ Scheels Fishing Specialist: "I think it's something that we do need a little more education on. Not a lot of people know about the transportation laws so it is something that we need to learn a little bit. And the rules do change a little bit from every year but I just want to make sure that you're not transporting live bait over from North Dakota to Minnesota."
You can, however, use dead bait from North Dakota in Minnesota with some restrictions. Visit our EasyLinks tab for more info.
