Minnesota 2A golf tournament
Detroit Lakes, MN (WDAY TV) - The Detroit Lakes girls golf team came to the state tournament with one goal in mind to continue their dominance in Minnesota with a third straight championship...they got a step closer to that goal yesterday after setting a new state record shooting 293 as a team and held a 33 shot advantage heading into today's final round....
2-time individual champion Kate Smith came into the day tied for second, from just off the green on 13 she puts it nice and close to tap in for par.
She shoots a 2 under round of 70 and adds another individual championship, tying with Maggie Heggerston of Pequot Lakes
Moving ahead to 18, Trista Hutchinson makes this short par putt to finish 2 over for the day and a third place finish to end her high school career
Sydney Busker was the last Laker on the course and with this short part putt, caps an amazing tournament for DL to capture its third straight state championship in record fashion with team total of 590, winning by 58 strokes.
“Something so special that I will remember for the rest of my life. I don't know if I have taken it all in yet but on the way home just enjoy our last couple hours.”
“We worked so hard all throughout the season, set a lot of goals at the beginning of the season. A three peat was one of them, it's just incredible.”
The two day total of 590 is also a new state record, beating Minnewaska's 2009 record by 20 shots.
