Maddock community honors JT Rice who died in airplane crash in 2011

Maddock, ND (WDAY TV) Sunday the town of Maddock, North Dakota was host to a special event and presentation.

It was all in honor of one of their own, JT Rice, who tragically died in an airplane crash in 2011.

As you fly by, it's not hard to see the hundreds flocked to the Maddock municipal airport.

“This is the second annual golf ball drop for the JT Rice North Dakota chapter of Pilots of Christ; it's a celebration of our chapter,” says Pat Tracy of JT Rice ND Pilots for Christ.

Pilots for Christ is an international volunteer organization that provides flight and transportation services to those in need, North Dakota's chapter has 69 members.

“To have an organization like Pilots for Christ that can provide fast, efficient, safe medical transport. It makes all the difference. It's the difference between saving a live and losing a life,” says North Dakota Congressman Kevin Cramer.

Around 300 people gathered today to enjoy food, the golf ball drop, church service and a special presentation in honor of the man the North Dakota chapter is named after.

“It's really special. It's kind of a day where we get to celebrate his life, and his passion,” says Paul Rice, brother of JT.

“It's a really big honor, it's awesome to see,” says Katie Rice, sister of JT.

JT Rice, who died in 2011, was a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. His character and legacy now lives on with the North Dakota Chapter of Pilots for Christ.

“It's an organization that cares about some of the things that he cared about,” says Barb Rice, mother of JT. 

“It's something that he would have loved to do. He loved to help people,” says Katie.

“It was perfect because this is exactly what he wanted to do with his life,” says Janna Rice, sister of JT.
