Laura Roesler-NCAA Champion 800 Meter Race
Oregon (WDAY TV) - Laura Roesler left Fargo four years ago for the promise of taking her track career to the next level and the opportunity to compete on the national stage.
Both of those goals have been accomplished, but there was one glaring hole for the Oregon standout.
A individual outdoor title.
She had her final chance tonight on her home track in Eugene, competing in the race she owns the fastest time, the 800 meters.
Roesler was slated in lane four and is her tradition, stayed in the middle of the pack for the early part of the race, problem was, so do most of the other runners.
Disaster nearly happened on the back straightaway as Roesler was tripped up and nearly fell! But after that she found another gear and powered to the outside and didn't look back from there, the crowd roaring as she took the lead and she dominates the race, winning in a time of 2:01.22, a second a half faster than her competitors, bringing home her 1st individual outdoor championship..
Laura Roesler/ NCAA Champion-800 Meters: “I was not in a good spot. I think even on the second lpa in the backstretch I was making people nervous. I started to get tripped up. And it kind of came over me this kind of competitiveness like I'm going I've got to get out of here. I went and like went at the bend. Coach is like when you go you make one move. I'll remember my family up in the stands. That group of neon up in the stands you can't miss them. They've been with me for this whole journey. Can't ask for a better ending.”
Roesler has one more race in her collegiate career, that's the 4 x 400 relay, she tends to run the anchor, that's tomorrow.
