Land blessing ceremony for affordable housing apartment complex to help with growing homeless population in Fargo-Moorhead
Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) - Churches United for the homeless is one step closer to making some low income families' dreams, a reality.
Tuesday, there was a land blessing ceremony in Moorhead off of the 300 block of 34th Street North.
This is the site where Churches United plans on building a 41 unit apartment complex with hopes of helping a growing homeless population in the Fargo-Moorhead area.
"There is controversy surrounding the building of this apartment and we're listening. But at the same time we think it’s great for churches united to take this step. And to create this apartment complex with permanent support services,” says Churches United Board President Loren Mellum.
The project is expected to cost about $6.5 million.
If the funding for the affordable housing apartment complex goes through in early October, construction is expected to begin as early as 2015.
