Home Construction is off to an average start this season
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - It looks like home construction is off to an average start in the F-M area.
After a long, cold winter and a slow spring, housing starts and total value are pretty close to last year's numbers.
Single-family home permits actually dropped about 31% but twin home and row house permits spiked.
Eighteen new units have gone up compared to none this time last year.
The Home Builders Association expects building season to heat up with the weather.
Carlita Dietz/Home Builders Association President: "our members are looking forward to a busy work season. Things are drying up, warming up, we're just ready to get going although we had a late winter, it seems to drag on this year."
Total housing valuation increased by about 5%, builders think low flooding risks this spring will help boost the numbers next quarter.
