Gene Taylor leaving NDSU after 13 years as athletic director
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - NDSU just completed the greatest athletic year perhaps in school history, nine different sports won championships, capped by a third straight football and a NCAA basketball tournament win.
For the man that oversees the entire athletic department, you dream for years like that.
Gene Taylor has lived that dream and know he's ready to chase another.
Taylor will leave NDSU and become Iowa's deputy athletic director.
He's been with the school for 13 years, took the school through the Division One transition and says he's ready for the next challenge in his professional life.
Gene Taylor/NDSU Athletic Director for 13 Years: “I do want to be a BCS Athletic Director someday; I had that as a vision when I was at Arizona State. Maybe the way to get about it is different for some than others but again as I mentioned earlier how Iowa operates, who they are as an athletic program in the Big 10, their focus is very similar to what we do here at NDSU and my relationship with Gary I think it will be easy to work with him.”
NDSU is slated to play Iowa in football in 2016, President Dean Bresciani said they will form a search committee to hire a new AD and want to have that person in place by the start of the fall.
