Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Warmer forecasts are music to any fisherman's ears, and some locals think you don't need to travel far to get some bites.

Beginning next Thursday night, the Fargo park district invites locals to learn how to fish in the Red River.

Local experts say there's plenty of fish to be caught right here in Fargo, and while the hour-plus trip to lakes in Minnesota can provide a nice change in scenery, it's not a necessary journey.

Jason Sayler/Scheels Fishing Expert: "You know I feel like people are just kinda driving over the river, it's there, but they don't really recognize that it's a great opportunity, and you can be catching some fish here locally as well."

Red River Fishing classes will take place at the Scheels on 45th street in Fargo; more information is on the Fargo Park District website.
