Fargo, ND - An overnight sobriety checkpoint led to seven arrests on drunken driving and drug-related charges, authorities say.

North Dakota State Highway Patrol Capt. Bryan Niewind said the checkpoint was conducted from 10:45 p.m. Thursday to 2:30 a.m. Friday at the westbound off-ramp of Interstate 94 at South University Drive.

Two-hundred forty-two vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and officers from the Highway Patrol, Fargo Police Department and Cass County Sheriff’s Office tested 24 drivers for impairment.

Of the seven arrested, three were for driving under the influence, Niewind said.

Authorities said the checkpoint also led to three likely charges of marijuana possession, two for amphetamine possession and one each for possessing marijuana and methamphetamine paraphernalia.

Two drivers were suspected of driving under suspension and one of having an open container, according to the patrol.
