Fair security expected to be busy looking for underage drinking

Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - Fair security expects tonight will be a busy one looking for underage drinkers, as they say the first night is usually the biggest for busts.

They're monitoring the crowd and checking ID's at all entrances to the beer gardens.

Last year, dozens of minor in consumption citations were given out the first night of the fair.

But that dropped off the rest of the week once word got out.

“The challenges are we have a lot of people. We have to take the time, and if we have to hold up a line because we're checking to see that it's the right person, we'll do so. We're in no hurry to get the people in. Yes, we want to have them have a good time, but we also want everybody to be safe and by the law,” says Head of Security Jerry Schatzke.

They say the performing act at the grandstand also makes a difference. Tuesday night's Chase Rice concert may bring out a younger crowd than Hairball Wednesday.
