Death Shocks Minnesota Town
Menahga, MN (WDAY TV) - A body found Saturday morning in Menahga is that of a 32-year old Detroit Lakes woman.
Officials have identified the body as Kelly Lund, though the manner of her death is still under investigation.
The town of Menahga is in shock, coping with the news of a death in the community.
"Wow it happened, but what are we going to do. What is the city doing what is the police doing?" says Menahga resident Nick Meyer.
The Wadena County Sheriff's Department and Minnesota's Bureau of Criminal Apprehension are investigating what caused Kelly Lund's death.
Police say it happened on the 300 block of 3rd Street, with neighbors adding that her body was found in a tent on her brother's property.
For many of Menahga's 1,300 residents, this is uncharted territory.
"I never heard of anything like this happen in this town that I remember, and I've been here all my life," says resident Daniel Warmbold.
Making dealing with Lund's death on the weekend of a town celebration, a more difficult community endeavor.
"A lot of people are related in this town, you know a lot of people, big community, a lot of relations and it affects a lot of the families in this town because everybody knew her and everything. something like this is a surprise especially when you're having a midsummer celebration in Menahga. You know it puts a little damper on things because people are kind of worried," says Warmbold.
As more details come to light, this town will come together, helping the family deal with the loss.
Officials cannot comment whether the cause of Lund's death is suspicious.
