Crews were called to the 1,000 block of 7th Street in North Fargo around 9 p.m.

Smoke and flames were visible from a corner of the building but crews were able to put it out quickly. Two cats were inside when the fire started and one of them needed medical attention. F-M Ambulance used oxygen on the cat before the Fargo Police Department took the cat to an emergency clinic.

Trista Berg/F-M Ambulance EMT: “Human patients are our first priority but all I could sit there and think about the person who owned this building that was on fire is going to come home to not a home unfortunately and I believe the last thing you want to deal with on top of that is the loss of your companions.”

Berg says she called the vet afterwards to see how the cat was doing, she says "so far so good".

The fire is still under investigation.
