Bison Sports Arena bleachers being transformed
Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - A local company hopes to turn old wooden bleachers into fan memorabilia.
The stands in the Bison Sports Arena were originally going to be demolished during its remodel.
Now, they'll be made into products that keep a legacy alive.
Bison fans could soon own a piece of NDSU history.
Seth Carlson/ ICSS Owner & Founder: "The most important thing is really saving this material."
The Bison Sports Arena is set for renovation, and its old wooden bleachers were originally scheduled for demolition.
Then, wood salvaging company ICSS Design & Supply stepped in.
Carlson: "So often things get thrown away in the landfill. This is a great opportunity for us to promote sustainability."
They're disassembling the stands and selling them to a new local company that makes custom projects out of reclaimed wood.
Grant Koenig/ Grain Design: "Being graduates and alumni, it hits home for all of us."
The guys at "Grain Designs" have big plans for the stands.
They hope to make memorabilia for fans and alumni.
Koenig: "We're looking to create three main pieces that would, potentially, be engraved with the NDSU logo."
For that, they're working with the University on a licensing agreement, so the fans who sat in the BSA through years of Bison victories can take a piece of it home.
Koenig: "We thought it's a great opportunity to keep that original Bison history alive."
Before discovering Grain Designs, ICSS planned to sell the wood to an out-of-state flooring company.
