Fargo, ND (WDAY TV) - In a year of change for NDSU there had been one constant at the top.

You had to hire a replacement for football, men's and women's basketball, the arena is now well underway.  If there was a perfect time, was this gonna be it?

Gene Taylor/Leaving NDSU After 13 Years: “Kind of, yeah, I would say that there was opportunities in the past that I have either not looked at or maybe not looked at and didn't get to interested because I felt it wasn't the right time.  This is one I looked at and it's about as good as it's gonna get in terms of a timing perspective.”

What do you believe the challenge is now going to be going forward for the new athletic director that the bar and every person I've talked to has said it has gone to a whole other level?

Taylor: “That's gonna be a tough deal, the expectations of the fan base, they just expect to be in Frisco, they just expect to win conference championships, all that's been fun but it may not happen every year.  I do feel confident that these coaches will keep it going.”

What do you believe your legacy is here?

Taylor: “It's tough like I said earlier to answer that, I think it's just how we pulled through the transition and how difficult that was and ultimately the success that we had.  I think people some wanted us to fail, some expected us to fail and it didn't happen and it was probably greater than everybody expected and to be the person to be able to say you led people through that.  I hope that will be something people remember for a long time.”

The timeline to hire Taylor's replacement figures to be by the fall, at ten, coaches and players react to Taylor leaving.
