Anglers take to the lakes on Minnesota's fishing opener
Crookston, MN (WDAY TV) - Another huge story Saturday, Minnesota's fishing opener kicked off just after midnight.
It's practically an unofficial holiday for many fishers throughout the region; with around 500,000 people expected to throw out a line Saturday.
Minnesota has close to 12,000 lakes, which makes the state is the third most popular inland fishing destination in the country.
And the popularity translates directly to dollars, as each angler is expected to bring in around $1,500 annually to the state.
And to top it off with Saturday's great weather, it was a memorable opener for those out on the water.
Giovanni Clark/Crookston Fisherman: "Oh it's the best way to start out the fishing season right here. Adrenaline rush. It's just pure adrenaline. You can't do nothing about it. You're just like "oh I got a fish on, let's go get it"."
