A 103 year old teacher returns for a day
Battle Lake, MN (WDAY TV) - In Battle Lake, Minnesota today, the elementary students celebrated more than Valentine's Day.
A valued and much loved retired teacher showed up, to not only read to the kids but to celebrate her 103rd birthday.
Finally a sunny morning for Theone Pederson, as she heads back to familiar ground.
Now 103, Theone, a retired teacher, decided why not treat a kindergarten class at Battle Lake to something near and dear to her heart, A day of reading.
Long before World War Two, Ruff, said Olive, sniffing the air, shortly after the depression.
Theone Pederson became an elementary teacher. For decades she taught, always a cheerleader for reading.
Theone Pederson/103 Years Old: "You have to learn how to read and read well and you have to use expression."
And things have changed in the last 80 years compared to when Theone started teaching. Computers, smart boards. Theone remembers those early days.
After a hundred days in school, the Battle Lake kindergarten class couldn't ask for a better teacher today. A century plus three.
Theone still reads without glasses, and doesn't miss a day of physical fitness.

And throughout her decades of teaching, Theone never taught high school. Always elementary.
